hunger insercurity in America
According to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Services, it records that while most U.S. households are food secure, a minority of U.S. households experience food insecurity at times during the year, meaning that their access to adequate food for active, healthy living is limited by lack of money and other resources. Some experience very- low food security, a more severe range of food insecurity where food intake of one or more members is reduced and normal eating patterns are disrupted.
Surveys by the USDA and the Census Bureau show that hunger has risen steeply during the pandemic. Just before the Coronavirus struck, 35 million Americans, 11 million of them children, experienced food insecurity, the lowest figure in two decades. This year, those numbers are projected to reach 54 million and 18 million respectively. In 2018, 4% of American adults reported that at least some members of their family did not have enough to eat.
